Abstract

Urban design and planning processes aim to create an environment that is consistent with the needs and behaviors of users. Studies have shown that urban spaces that do not satisfy user requirements lead to negative impacts (environmental / behavioral / social / cultural / ...) on these individuals; This will lead to abandonment of these urban spaces or trying to make adjustments to suit their needs, or acquire new behaviors that help them to cope with these spaces.
The research paper provides an explanation of the urban spaces research topic (definition and objectives) and design determinants. The research explains the nature of open markets as one of the most important urban spaces that are dealt with on a daily basis, and the characteristics of urban and design foundations and types with a presentation of some experiences from different countries for projects to develop markets, with a view to improving and upgrading and the impact of this development on human behavior.
The paper discusses the issue of the spread of open markets which are part of the urban spaces that affect human behavior. In fact, the existence of activities in the inappropriate spaces leads to an imbalance in the surrounding urban environment. The research presents a case study of the open markets in Minya and offers solutions to upgrade them after analyzing them and benefiting from previous experiences.
The research concludes with a set of general findings and recommendations through which we can draw some realistic solutions to the problems of open markets in order to work to improve human behavior.
